NEW DELHI: Police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting and sodomising a woman in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar. The accused, identified by police as Irshad Ali Khan, allegedly hid his identity and befriended the woman using the alias of Guddu Chaudhary, cops said. Khan is also a co-accused in a murder case in Bhajanpura lodged in 2008, police said.
Police received a complaint from the woman on September 7.
She had injuries at 28 places on her body, a medical examination revealed. She claimed in the complaint that the accused had befriended her in 2011 and even got a tattoo of a goddess done on a hand.
Claiming to be an advocate, the accused "married" her. After the wedding, she got to know that the accused was already married, had two kids and practised a different religion, she alleged. The woman claimed she was held captive in Delhi and Bhopal and abused by the accused. On Friday, senior officers asked the local police to maintain a strict vigil and make adequate deployment in the area to avoid any untoward incident as they belonged to different communities.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
