Minor girl molested in Assam’s Karimganj district, 1 arrested

SILCHAR: A man was arrested in Karimganj district on Saturday for allegedly molesting a minor girl.
The arrested man, Yusuf Ali, is a driver and hails from Gholguri, Achimganj in Karimganj.
The girl’s family lodged an FIR in this connection. As per the complaint, the girl got into Yusuf’s van on Thursday while going to school. A few people, who were in the van, got down from the vehicle at their respective destinations following which Yusuf allegedly molested the girl inside the vehicle.In order to save herself, the girl jumped from the van and got critically injured after which Yusuf fled from the spot, the complaint said.
Sources said onlookers immediately gathered on the spot and took the girl to a primary health centre. At present, she is under treatment at her house, the sources said.
Sources said Yusuf was identified by some people on Saturday who were aware about the incident. The people caught Yusuf and informed the police following whichhe was arrested, the sources added.
A senior police officer said a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 has been registered. Yusuf will be produced before a court in Karimganj on Sunday, he added.
Various organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, have demanded strict punishment against Yusuf.
